Unisoft employs web browser technology for viewing its reports

Unisoft has developed a viewer using web browser technology for its reports. These are the reports produced by the Cystoscopy and GI Reporting Tools.

This new feature does away with the need to install the Unisoft client application on many PCs across the Trust. In fact, now the only PCs the client application needs to be installed on are those where reports are actually created or edited.  Then anyone with access to the Trust's intranet - or, optionally, only authorised users - can view the Unisoft reports via their intranet browser.

How does this feature work?  Well, the endoscopy reports are automatically sent from the local PC to a central location within the intranet - either when they are saved or printed. The format used is XML (eXtensible Markup Language).

Then a Unisoft program 'hoovers' up these reports and drops them into a database - either Access or SQL Server - ready to be displayed in any intranet browser.  Viewed this way the reports look exactly as they do when printed on paper or inside the main applications.

In Scotland these reports are being fed through to SCI Store (Scottish Care Information Store, versions 3.1 and 4.0).

Additional IM&T Information

This application requires

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 5.0 / 6.0
  • Microsoft Access 2003 or SQL Server 2000 (or later)
  • Unisoft's "XML Store" service.  This is auto-upgradeable in the same way as the main applications are.
